For Seattle’s annual Grand Slam of Poetry, a new unique micro-identity was created. The standard, muscle ripped flexed arm is replaced with a skeleton arm clenching a microphone, with the addition of the tagline Down to the Bone.

This was carried over to business cards to promote the event, including a special edition by Linden Ontjes featuring wishbones.

This ancient Chinese text needed a refresh for the 21st Century.

From one large illustration of a tree created by blowing ink across a page, a vector rendition was made and then sliced into 81 pieces on a 9 by 9 grid — one slice for each verse of the Tao. Add a spacious grid and a minimal typeface, and the Tao Te Ching suddenly becomes modern, accessible and inviting.
